Herbert “Herb” R. Marshall, 90, of Crestline, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Mill Creek Nursing Home, in Galion. Born on November 19, 1935, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Willis and Doris “Lucille” (Shade) Marshall, Herb was a lifelong resident of the Crestline area, graduating from Crestline High School as a member of the Class of 1953.

Throughout his career, Herb worked at Metzger Shell Station in Crestline, then dedicated himself to the field of telecommunications, working for ITT, Northern Electric, PECO and PECO II as a Field Service Engineer, retiring in 2000. His expertise and commitment to his work were evident in all that he did. In his retirement years, Herb enjoyed spending time helping his daughter, Pam, while she owned and operated DK’s Ice Cream Shop in Galion. He enjoyed taking care of maintenance and helping out wherever he was needed. Herb also served as a Jefferson Township Trustee for 17years.

Herb had a passion for life and enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He enjoyed wintering in Florida and found joy in fishing at Lake Erie. He was an avid collector of toy trains, and he often hosted gatherings filled with bonfires and cookouts. Herb was known for his simple pleasures, such as driving, enjoying popcorn, and purchasing flowers to brighten the home. Herb was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Leesville where he was a member of the church council and taught Sunday School. He then attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Galion.

Herb leaves behind his beloved wife of seventy-one years, Betty (Daum) Marshall; his children, Victoria “Vicki” (Denny) Perry, Douglas (Tina) Marshall, Pamela (Paul) Louden, his grandchildren, David (Amanda) Perry, Wendy (Jake Murphy) Perry and Shane (Jessica) Marshall; his great-grandchildren who called him “Papaw Herbie”, Abby, Ella, and Danny Perry, brother-in-law, Jimmy Myers and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his brother, Ferris “Adrian” Marshall., his sister, A. Ileen Myers, and sister-in-law Shelby Jean (Marshall) Gazia.

A public graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 9:00 AM with Jerusha Walker, S.A.M. officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter, 480 Dussell Dr., Suite 150, Maumee, OH 43537, or Gentiva Hospice, 1202 Delaware Ave., Marion, OH 43302.
