BELLVILLE – Every step taken down Main Street in Bellville on Saturday came with increasing sounds and smells of farm animals.
It was a tell-tale sign the junior livestock auction was taking place.
Over 150 animals were shown, auctioned and sold to their new homes — everything from ducks, cows, turkeys and pigs, with plenty in between.
Buyers clubs, local companies, city officials and more rallied into the bleachers and rows of seats to bid on the animals, culminating in thousands of dollars going directly to the children, including a “Scholarship Hog,” which sold for $1,500.
Juveniles from Bellville, Clear Fork, Shelby and beyond took the stage, one after another, bringing their biggest smile and best animal in front of the crowd.
The livestock auction was part of the 176th Bellville Street Fair, which concludes with Sunday’s 1 p.m. Horse Show at the Timber Valley Ranch, 4848 State Route 13.
