Stephen “Steve” Menifee Patton, age 70, of Cridersville, OH, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. He was born December 15, 1955, in Kenton, OH, to Dorsey D. and Edith (Ramey) Patton.
Steve attended school in Lucas, where he graduated from high school. Soon after graduation, in 1974, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served for three years and was honorably discharged at Camp Pendleton.
Steve had a love for art, especially drawing and sketching. He was also talented at painting, with oil painting being one of his favorite forms of artistic expression. He enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors.
He worked as a guard at Lima prison for approximately 25 years, dedicating much of his working life to his career.
Steve is survived by his mother, Edith Patton; and son, Stephen Andrew Patton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dorsey Patton; brother, Tim Patton; and sister, Cindy Butterbaugh.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2026, at Wappner Funeral Directors – Mansfield, 98 South Diamond Street, Mansfield Ohio 44902. A service will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Steve will be laid to rest in Mount Zion Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad.
