James “Jim” David Foltz, 73, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Avita Health System – Bucyrus Hospital. He was born on December 2, 1952, in Galion, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Carol (Rood) Foltz.

Jim was deeply dedicated to his education and his passion for teaching. He graduated from Galion High School before earning his bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and his master’s degree from Mount St. Joseph University. He proudly devoted his career to educating young minds, serving as a secondary history teacher at Northmor Middle School for 11 years and Bucyrus Middle School for six years. Through his years in the classroom, Jim shared not only his knowledge of history but also his love of learning with countless students.

Jim had a love for life and enjoyed many things, including music and playing guitar, swimming, and working out. He especially loved teaching and coaching 7th and 8th grade football, where he enjoyed mentoring and encouraging his players.

Jim had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He enjoyed stand-up comedy and could always bring a smile to those around him.

His Christian faith was an important part of his life, and he was never afraid to openly express and share his faith with others. Jim also had a special love for animals, especially cats.

He deeply cherished the lifelong friendships he made with his classmates and teammates, especially those he played baseball and football with.

Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his brother, Joseph (Paula) Foltz; his sister, Marcy Rood; and many cousins.

Friends and family may call on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Gompf Funeral Service – Galion Chapel, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. A service will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Jeff Shaull. Burial will follow at Caledonia Cemetery.
