David Lee Barnes, 86, of Ohio, passed peacefully on September 1, 2026. He was born March 6, 1940, in Cleveland to Mary and George Barnes.
Dave was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a lifelong horseman, proud Ford man and unmistakable Ohioan. He met his wife, Barbara “Bonnie,” at age 16 while working at Woolworths. They married January 25, 1964, and shared more than 62 years together.
Dave spent 38 years with Ford Motor Company, where he was known for his knowledge, integrity, warmth and upbeat attitude. He often said, “Attitude is everything,” a philosophy that reflected the way he lived.
A lifelong lover of Morgan horses, Dave competed at horse shows around Ohio and at The Gold Cup in Columbus. He was also a devoted Cleveland Browns and Ohio State fan.
Dave is survived by Bonnie; their children, Tamara (Scott), Tracey (Ray), David (Lura), Holly, Jeffrey (Denise), and Barbara (Gus); eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother George and Rich.
Funeral arrangements will be announced when complete by Herlihy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Music Series.
