Leroy “Pete” Stamper of Mansfield passed away Thursday, August 27, 2026, at his home. He was 87 years old.
Pete was born on July 5, 1939, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, one of sixteen children of the late Irene (Fultz) and Alvin Stamper. Coming from a very large family, he learned he always had a friend or confidant nearby. He was a determined, generous, one-of-a-kind man and was a wonderful provider for his own large family. Although he could be impatient at times, he had the best of intentions.
Pete’s love of cars was immense, and he enjoyed car shows and especially antique cars. He was a Ford man through and through. Along with George Zackman, he was the owner/operator of Belmont Auto Sales, retiring after 33 years. Above all, his family was his top priority, and he leaves a legacy of love that will be treasured by all.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rosanna Middleton Stamper; four children, Thomas Kososky, Timothy (Connie) Stamper, Mark Stamper, and Dorothy Smith; three stepchildren, Gilbert Woods, Susan Cooper, and Nicky (Shelly) Woods; a stepdaughter-in-law, Jamie Woods; a special grandson, Connor Woods; thirty-five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; ten siblings, Virgil Stamper, Jack (Linda) Stamper, Paul (Liz) Stamper, Arthur (Sherry) Stamper, Wilma Jean (Bobby) Lewis, Joann (Mitchell) Clifton, Frances (Bill) Dehart, Ruth Riley, Lottie Wilson, and Reba Mays; numerous nieces, nephews and close relatives; and two very close friends, George Zackman and Bill Leonard.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Rebecca Maxine Knipp Stamper; four children, Larry Kososky, Frank Kososky, Billy Stamper, and Charlotte Artrip; five siblings, Bonnie Lewis, Ruby Knipp, Everett Stamper, Willard Stamper, and Andy Stamper; two sisters-in-law, Katy Huff and Minnie Hunt; and a brother-in-law, Art Boyce.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Wappner Funeral Directors and Crematory-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:00 am. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh, Ohio.
