Charles “Charlie” Gessling, age 75, of Bellville, Ohio passed away on August 24, 2026 at home. He was born on August 18, 1951 in Mansfield Ohio the son of the late Maurice and Inez Snider Gessling. On May 11, 1974 he married Glenna DeLee Shadel at the home of his family and they shared 52 years together.
Charlie retired from Mansfield Correctional Institution in 2007. He earned the rank of Major and worked in several institutions in the state of Ohio. He was an avid reader until his eyesight became too dim. He loved his motorcycle. His favorite was his Softail Duece Harley. He would be in the garage for hours washing and polishing it. He loved animals. He would feed the birds, deer, raccoons, possums, and also took in stray cats and a dog. His favorite animal was his cat Jobiter. They had a special bond.
He is survived by his wife DeLee; brother, Neal Gessling and sister, Mary Ellen Ramsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bill Gessling.
