DANVILLE — A Howard man was killed Tuesday morning in a one-vehicle crash in Danville, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Eric G. Carpenter, 52, of Howard, succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene, the Patrol reported.

The incident involved a utility task vehicle (UTV) that crashed on Harrisburg Road near Chapel Road in Jefferson Township, Knox County.

Troopers and deputies responded to the scene at 4:44 a.m. after the Knox County 911 Dispatch Center received a call from a motorist who discovered the crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2024 Polaris RZR, operated by Carpenter, was southbound on Harrisburg Road when his vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway, struck a fence, and overturned, before coming to rest on its side in the roadway. Carpenter was ejected from the UTV.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District, Mount Vernon Association of Police Chaplains, and Danville Tire & Alignment.

This crash remains under investigation.
