BELLVILLE – A longtime dream is becoming reality in downtown Bellville as The Green Bean House prepares to open its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony next week.
Owned by Mindy and Jeremy Sansom, The Green Bean House, located at 230 Main St., will offer coffee, tea, smoothies, pastries and other specialty drinks while creating a gathering place for the community – thus their slogan: Valley Grounded, Hometown Grown.
The shop also showcases products from local artisans, authors, and bakers—alongside offerings like locally roasted coffee, honey, maple syrup, flowers, and cards. Customers will find indoor seating, a covered patio and a venue that will be available for Sunday rentals for parties, small groups and special events. The Sansoms also plan to host live music and community events for all ages.
For Mindy Sansom, the business is the realization of an idea that has been years in the making.
“We had spent years looking at different locations and properties,” Sansom said.
The couple had talked about opening a Bellville coffee shop, but the name began taking shape in 2022. While discussing a vacant corner lot at Main and Durbin streets with her mother, Ruthie, Sansom joked that it would be the perfect location for a coffee shop if someone would build one for her.
Her mother’s response: “Oh yes! And you would call it The Green Bean!”
The name stuck — and eventually became a family affair.
When the Sansoms began developing the shop’s branding, they realized “GB” matched the initials of two of their children, Gage and Bryn. Jeremy had long referred to the idea as a coffeehouse, so they added “House,” giving them “GBH” and incorporating their oldest daughter, Halen, into the name as well.
The location ultimately came full circle, too. After the Main and Durbin property changed hands, Mindy learned in 2024 that the people developing the site were looking for a coffee shop tenant. After talks began, Jeremy’s mother, Rinda, informed Mindy & Jeremy of a fun twist, that the owners of the property, Preston Boyd and Adam Beveridge, are actually distant cousins of Jeremy.
Mindy Sansom, a graduate of Bowling Green State University and Mount Vernon Nazarene University, previously founded the Clear Fork Christian Preschool & Learning Center in Butler and is currently a first grade teacher for Clear Fork Valley Local School District at Bellville Elementary. Jeremy Sansom is a graduate of the University of Toledo and currently works in Human Resources for Global Energy Partners.
The Green Bean House will celebrate its ribbon cutting at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 230 Main St. in Bellville.
