James A. “Jim” Feussner, age 60, of Mansfield, died early Saturday morning, August 1, 2026 at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. Jim’s death comes as a result of a brief and unexpected illness.
Jim was born February 23, 1966 in Shelby, the son of the late Connell D. “Al” and Jayne E. (Shepherd) Feussner. Jim was a 1984 graduate of Shelby High School and Pioneer Joint Vocational School where he studied horticulture. Throughout his working career, Jim had been employed at the Brown Derby Roadhouse, Bob Evans, and The Arbors at Mifflin.
Trains were far more than a hobby to Jim; they were a lifelong passion. From full-size locomotives to intricately detailed model railroads, trains captured his imagination and remained one of life’s greatest joys. He spent countless happy hours building, collecting, and talking about model trains, and treasured his time as a member of the Shelby Model Railroad Club, where he shared his enthusiasm with friends who appreciated his knowledge and excitement. Jim also enjoyed playing video games and watching old movies.
Jim is survived by his aunt and uncle: Sue and Bob Stover; siblings: Beth (Chris) Clark of Shelby, Katharine (Tom) Sabourin of Mansfield, and John (Linda) Feussner of Shelby; nieces and nephews and their families: Mike Clark, David (Rebecca) Sabourin, Amanda (Jordan) Sabourin-Rapp, Logan Feussner, and Jensen Feussner; and cousins: Brian and Andy Stover. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents: James and Katharine Shepherd and aunt and uncle: Bernice and Joseph Majlaski.
Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 4-7 pm at the Penwell Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Jim will be interred at Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
For the past 12 years, Jim resided at Dayspring Assisted Living in Mansfield where he truly was happy. He was lovingly cared for by staff and enjoyed time with friends, especially his best friend, Bob Hunter. His family requests that memorial contributions be made to Dayspring Assisted Living, 3220 N Olivesburg Road, Mansfield, OH 44903.
