Sandra Kay Velarde, aged 71, of Shelby, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Avita Health System in Ontario, surrounded by all those she loved the most.
Born November 2, 1954, in Shelby, Ohio, to the late William (Bill) and Arlene (O’Toole) Meek, Sandra was a proud graduate of Shelby High School, class of 1973. She dedicated 31 years to serving Shelby City Schools, and was affectionately known as the “Copy Lady,” retiring in 2025.
Above all, Sandra cherished her grandchildren, showering them with love and devotion. Her warmth and kindness will be profoundly missed by family and friends alike.
She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Nikkia (John) Konrad of Shelby, Ohio; cherished grandchildren, Kiara Konrad, Sam Velarde and Tristan (Halei) Velarde; and treasured great-grandchild, Scout Velarde. She is also survived by her siblings, Lee Meek of Mansfield, Ohio, and Sherrie (Tom) Wilson of Ontario, Ohio, along with other loving relatives.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, William and Arlene Meek and 1st great-grandchild Oliver Velarde.
