Paul Raymond Mills, 87, of Mansfield, Ohio, peacefully passed away on July 24, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family and those who cherished him most.
Paul was born on August 27, 1938, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Victor and Marion (Swangim) Mills. Following his graduation from high school, he proudly answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy, faithfully serving over four years. His years of military service reflected the patriotism, discipline, and quiet strength that remained hallmarks of his character throughout his life.
Upon returning home, Paul married the love of his life, Barbara “Barb” Mills. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and unwavering devotion, raising two children who remained the pride and joy of his life.
Paul dedicated many years of hard work to the local steel mill before retiring. Though he worked tirelessly throughout his career, he found his greatest happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman who treasured peaceful days on the water and a devoted gardener who found joy in tending to the earth and watching his hard work flourish. His love for nature reflected the quiet, gentle spirit that so many came to know and admire.
His faith was an important part of his life. Paul faithfully attended both First Wesleyan Church on Park Avenue West and Diamond Hills Church on South Diamond Street, where he found fellowship, encouragement, and spiritual strength.
One of Paul’s greatest delights was his beloved cats. Argo and Addie held a special place in his heart as well as Willie, Tuck and Copper, and he never missed an opportunity to proudly tell stories about them to anyone willing to listen. They were treasured companions bringing him comfort, laughter, and unconditional love.
Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara; his parents, Victor Mills and Marion (Swangim) Mills; his brother, Jake Mills; and his sisters, Terry Mills and Jeannine Rardin.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory, including his children, Scott Mills and Danielle Mills, both of Mansfield, Ohio; his sisters, Debbie (Mills) Levingston {Henry} of Bellville, Ohio, Kathleen (Mills) Metcalf of Columbus, Ohio, and his cherished brother-in-law, John Armstrong.
He is also survived by a very special niece, Candy Jo (Mills) O’Dell {Jamaal} of Mansfield, Ohio, who stood faithfully by his side throughout his courageous battle with cancer, offering unwavering love, compassion, and support until the very end. Paul found great comfort knowing she would continue to be there for the children he loved so deeply.
He is further survived by his nieces, Karra {Mark} McKenzie, Alanna Lane, and Samantha Levingston {Justin} of Greenup, Kentucky; his nephews, Michael Mills of Canandaigua, New York, and Codey Levingston and Henry Levingston II, both of Bellville, Ohio.
Paul also leaves behind his dear extended family member and personal registered nurse, Destini Anderson, whom he adored and made sure others knew how great of a nurse she is and who lovingly cared for him throughout his battle with cancer; his beloved cats, Argo, Addie, Willie, Tuck, and Copper; his longtime friend, Steve Wadley (Diana); his daughter Danielle’s fiancé, David Swearingain; and close family friend, Omari Rankin.
Paul will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, his quiet strength, his devotion to his faith, his honorable military service, and the kindness and warmth he extended to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His life was one of hard work, loyalty, humility, and enduring love. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Monday August 3rd from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services by Wappner, 1327 Ashland Road, Mansfield His services will be graveside Monday August 3rd, 2026, at 10:30am at Windsor Park Cemetery (Windsor Rd. Mansfield, Ohio).
