Timothy “Petey” Alan Petersen, 56, of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Friday, July 24th, 2026. His loss leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Tim will be remembered for his kind heart, his willingness to lift up those in need, the deep love he had for his family, and his unforgettable sense of humor. His family was the center of his life, and his love for them was unwavering.
He was, in many ways, the mascot of our family—the one who could make everyone laugh no matter the situation. Tim never missed an opportunity to tell a questionable one-liner, deliver a perfectly timed joke, or come up with a hilarious nickname that somehow managed to stick for years. His quick wit, playful spirit, and ability to find humor in everyday moments filled every room he entered. Those stories, laughs, and nicknames will continue to be shared for years, reminding us of the joy he brought to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
While Tim faced struggles that were not always visible to others, his life was so much more than the circumstances of his passing. He will be remembered for the laughter he shared, the compassion he showed, and the countless lives he touched.
In Tim’s memory, his family hopes his story will encourage open conversations about mental health. They ask that anyone who is struggling know that they are not alone and that seeking help is an act of courage and strength. Tim’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Tim was born on September 15, 1969, the youngest of 12 children. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim; his mother, Jeanne; his brothers, John and Mike; and his nephew, Brandon.
Tim’s legacy lives on through his beloved daughter, Paige (Luke) Garrabrant of Johnstown, Ohio; his cherished granddaughters, Gracen and Eleanor; and his grandson, “Fast Freddie”.
He is survived by 9 of his siblings and their spouses: Dick and Joie Petersen of Pickerington, Ohio; Jim and Louise Petersen of Fort Worth,Texas/Orlando,Florida; Bill Petersen of Biloxi, Mississippi; Tom and Trina Petersen of Powell, Ohio; Kathy and Kenny Badalamenti of Solon, Ohio; Dan and Kim Petersen of Mansfield, Ohio; Moe and Chuck Neal of Galion, Ohio; Colleen and Pat Wood of St. Louis, Missouri; Laureen and David Kelley of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida, and his sister-in-law, Diane Petersen of Hilliard, Ohio.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, August 15th, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church Activity Center 115 N. Liberty Street, Galion. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Joseph Church at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place immediately afterward at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
