MANSFIELD — The sounds of laughter, music and conversations filled the grounds of Oasis of Love Church Saturday as families and friends gathered for the church’s 10th annual Community Block Party.
The smell of burgers, popcorn, watermelon and snow cones filled the warm summer air as guests enjoyed a day of fellowship and fun.
The event provided a day of activities, resources and support for people of all ages. Guests enjoyed free food, giveaways, prizes, haircuts, train rides, bounce houses and school supplies, including backpacks for students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
What began as an event serving Richland County has grown over the years to reach people throughout Richland, Crawford and Huron counties. The block party joins churches, local organizations and community partners to provide resources and create a welcoming environment.
Pastor Raymond Cochran said the purpose of the event is to remind people they are loved and supported.
“I just want everybody to know that they’re loved, that they’re thought of,” Cochran said. “This is what ministry is — going outside those four walls and sharing the word with people.”
Cochran said the event allows the church to reach people beyond Sunday services and show support to those who may be facing difficult times.
For many visitors, the block party was a chance to spend time with family, connect with neighbors and enjoy a day centered around community.
“It brings everybody together,” one first-time visitor said.
From the food and activities to the conversations shared throughout the day, the block party showed the impact of a community coming together.
More than an annual event, it served as a reminder of the importance of connection, support and showing others they are valued.
