MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle crash that seriously injured one person early Sunday on Interstate 71.
The crash occurred around 12:27 a.m. near milepost 173 in Mifflin Township, troopers said.
According to a preliminary investigation, Antonio Mayberry, 36, of Cleveland, was driving a 2026 Ford Bronco southbound on I-71 when he went off the left side of the road and struck a parked 2020 Lexus RC on the left shoulder.
The impact pushed the Lexus into a stationary 2008 Ford F-650 tow truck and struck two pedestrians standing outside the tow truck: Derek Tharp, 28, and Steven Gamble, 38, both of Mansfield.
Tharp was taken to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital with serious injuries, according to the patrol.
The driver of the Lexus — Zober Ahmad, 24, of Stow — was transported to the same hospital with minor injuries.
Mayberry and Gamble were treated at the scene. Troopers said authorities said Mayberry and Ahmad were wearing seat belts.
The OSHP was assisted at the scene by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Ronk’s Towing, and fire departments from Mifflin, Mansfield, and Madison townships.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the patrol.
