Lynn Eugene Cates
February 7, 1946 ~ July 9, 2026
Heaven gained another angel this day, Lynn, after a brief illness.
Born in Mansfield, Ohio, the 1st of 4 children to Robert Cates and the 1st of 3 children to Elnora Burkepile Cates Miller, Lynn called Butler, Ohio, his boyhood home, then grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and Livonia, Michigan. He attended college at Michigan State University. Afterward, he worked for Ford Motor Company Wixom assembling Thunderbirds. He then worked for J. L. Goodman Furniture in Cleveland, Ohio, as an accountant. He later held jobs with Chevrolet, Bamal, 7-Eleven and Sax Stores.
Lynn came to Largo, Florida in 1978, then later Spring Hill, Florida in 1990. Finally, he was a licensed journeyman electrician with D’Andrea Electric, Inc. for 13 years, having been an electrician for 18 years. He then medically retired from work at age 56.
Lynn is predeceased by his parents (2014, 2017), and his wife, Jackie (2023). Survivors include his son, David Cates, his sister Mary Britten, his brothers Bob (Cheryl) Cates, Greg Cates, and Chuck (Laura) Cates; several nieces and nephews; and his grandchildren, Brianna (Alex) Fallis, Emily Santana, and Abby Cates.
There will be a graveside service hosted by Snyder Funeral Homes of Bellville, on July 25, 2026, at 1:00PM at Zion (“4 Corners”) Cemetery, near Butler, Ohio with Celebrant Jerry Wilson officiating.
