MANSFIELD — The NAACP Branch #3190 is inviting the community to its annual Fish Fry on Saturday, July 18, at the Legacy Academy of Excellence, 215 Trimble Road, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until the food is sold out.
The popular community fundraiser combines great food with an even greater purpose: helping local students pursue higher education.
Proceeds from the event will support scholarships awarded through the NAACP Education Committee.
Food, fellowship and a brighter future
This year’s scholarship recipients are Deante McDaniel, a graduate of Madison High School, and Jayna Alexander and Lauryn Nall, graduates of Mansfield Senior High School. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship to continue their education at the University of Cincinnati.
“One of our key missions at the NAACP is to encourage young people to continue their education and become leaders in our community,” said Carla James, chair of the NAACP Education Committee.
“This fundraiser plays an essential role in helping deserving students achieve their educational goals while giving the community an opportunity to invest in their future.”
What’s on the menu
Guests can enjoy a hearty meal featuring freshly fried fish or chicken, bread, coleslaw, French fries, dessert and a drink for a suggested donation of $20. Additional donations are welcome, with every dollar supporting the scholarship fund.
The meal will once again be prepared by a dedicated team led by Dorothy Everson, who founded the fundraiser to help local students achieve their educational goals.
The NAACP extends its sincere appreciation to Everson and her family for their years of dedication and continued support of the event.
Community members are encouraged to come early and bring their appetites. Every meal purchased helps provide educational opportunities for the next generation of local students.
