Douglas Eugene Carns

Douglas Eugene Carns, 75, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at OhioHealth Mansfield hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Doug was born on May 1, 1951, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Edna Carns and U.L. Swinney. He attended Madison Local Schools and, as a young man, worked at Daugherty’s Sohio. He later began a career at Gorman-Rupp Pumps, where he dedicated 40 years of hard work before retiring.

Doug loved sports and competition. He played softball for many years alongside friends from Gorman-Rupp and was a devoted fan of all Cleveland sports teams. His greatest passion, however, was drag racing his 1964 Plymouth Belvedere. He loved working on his race cars and spending time at the track. Some of his favorite memories were made at Norwalk Raceway with his beloved wife, Linda, and dear friends Jamie and Rose Ramey.

Doug will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Linda Carns; his twin brother, Dick Carns; and his sister, Diane Carns Miller. He is also survived by his children, Eric Carns (Amy), Holly Carns Miller, Jamie Carns (Beth), Troy Carns (Katie), and Bethany Carns Darr (James); his stepchildren, Von Rae Guiler, Jodi Cline, and Dustin Cline; and 21 cherished grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Carns and U.L. Swinney; his brothers, Ed Carns and Lee Carns; and his beloved granddaughter, Kelley Carns.

Doug will be remembered for his hardworking nature, generous heart, quiet strength, unwavering love for his family and friends, enthusiasm for racing, and the countless memories he created with those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Bellville American Legion. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Doug’s life, share memories, and honor the man who meant so much to so many.
