Charles Learmonth Rhodes, age 86 of Bellville, OH, passed away Saturday June 13, 2026, in Providence Care Center in Sandusky, OH, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 5, 1939, in Akron, OH, to the late Elizabeth (Learmonth) and Harry Rhodes.
Chuck received his Bachelor’s Degree from Youngstown State University and his Master’s Degree from Case Western Reserve University. He retired from the State of Ohio after serving as the superintendent of juvenile correction facilities throughout the state. In his late teens, he had the opportunity to live on an Indian Reservation in Arizona and often spoke fondly of his time there.
Along with his wife, Jennette, he owned and operated the Stein Haus, a bar/restaurant/dart club in Bellville. Chuck was a dedicated member of All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Bellville. He served with Matthew 25 ministries delivering food boxes until his illness began two months ago. He was also a member of Masonic Hanover Lodge #115 in Loudonville.
He enjoyed reading, gardening, woodworking, blacksmithing and lending a helping hand wherever he was needed. He was an accomplished Golden Gloves Champion boxer, which was quite an achievement. However, the love he had for Lisa and Shelley (Sam), along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends, eclipsed all of his many life accomplishments.
Chuck will be fondly remembered by his daughter, Lisa (Aaron Brown) Rhodes-Tedrow; his step-daughter, Shelley (Gregory) Mauk; his grandchildren, Christian Mauk, Noah Tedrow, Isaiah (Tymber) Tedrow; his great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Tedrow, Celeste Tedrow and Ellianna Tedrow; his nieces Kris Van Cleve and Terri Pokusa; his nephews Michael Catlin, David DeLong, James DeLong and Michael DeLong and his sister-in-law Dotsie DeLong.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Jennette (DeLong) Rhodes; his sister, Sally Catlin; his niece, Karen Catlin; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gladys and D.K. DeLong and his brother-in-law, Joseph DeLong.
Chuck’s family extends their deepest thanks to his church family for driving to Sandusky to visit him. The family would also like to thank the staff at Providence Care Center for their kindness and wonderful care as well as Stein Hospice for all the support and compassion they showed to him and his family. Words cannot express their gratitude.
Chuck’s family will greet friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, July 10, 2026, in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 25 Church Street, Bellville, OH 44813.
