Clyde Edward Bates, 83, of Galion, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Woodside Village in Mt. Gilead. Clyde was born on February 3, 1943, in Weeksbury, KY to the late Willie and Ramie (Isaac) Bates.

Clyde graduated from Wheelwright High School in Kentucky. After high school, he went on to serve his country faithfully in the United States Army. Clyde married Auty (Johnson) Bates and together they had 2 children. They shared many years together before her passing on February 29, 2013. Clyde later married Rosie (Moore) Bates and they shared a loving 13 years together in championship.

For 16 years, Clyde was a devoted and active member of Trinity Gospel Tabernacle Church, where he faithfully served and built lasting relationships within his church family. His strong faith was an important part of his life and guided him throughout the years.

Clyde had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed spending his free time riding his motorcycle, hunting, and fishing. He found joy in nature and treasured the adventures and friendships that came with his favorite hobbies.

In addition to his wife Rosie, Clyde is survived by his children; Lela (Edward) Higgins, Shawna Bates-Mozzota and Crystal (Chris) Campbell; 3 grandchildren; Justin (Brandi) Higgins, Dlyan Bates and Cecila Campbell; great-granddaughter, Bella Higgins; and his siblings; Arthur “Ray” Bates and Rhonda (Lloyd) Slone; as well as numerous nieces and nephew and a special brother-in-law, Danny Johnson.

In addition to his parents and late wife, Auty, Clyde was preceded in death by his siblings; Tennis, Willie, Lester, Chester, Jack, Jean, Patty, Evelyn, Mabel, Cleo and Ann.

Friends may call on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:00am at Trinity Gospel Tabernacle Church, 326 1st Ave., Galion, OH 44833. The service will immediately follow at 11:00am with Pastor Rick Cox officiating. A graveside service will follow at Dapper Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered.
