Scott Jeffrey Schneider, age 70, of Ontario, OH, died peacefully on June 5, 2026 from a gradual decline in his health related to various medical conditions. Born September 3, 1955 in Mansfield, he was the son of M. Carole (Griffith) Zartman, and the late G. Stanford Schneider.
Scott is survived by his mother; a sister, Vicki Martin, of Mansfield; a brother, Stan Schneider, of Massachusetts; a half-sister, Melissa Zartman (Mansfield); a step-sister, Lanny Elias, of Crestline; and a niece, Brooke Martin, of Florida. Scott had a large extended family: one surviving Aunt, Diane Sinerson, of Colorado, and numerous cousins and their off-spring, scattered across the United States. In 1974 Scott graduated from Malabar high school, joined the US Army, and was stationed in Berlin, Germany as an MP, where he began to appreciate various beers and foods, leading to a life devoted to taste testing and commentary. Scott was employed at Barnes Pumps, then followed a life of traveling the West, finding places he liked to stay (such as Montana, Nevada and Kingman, Arizona).
Periodically he returned to Mansfield before venturing out again, until he bought a house in Ontario several years ago. He was a solitary person who could be wryly humorous, drawing the unexpected laugh; he could be kind and generous, stubborn and oppositional. He had a unique way of living and interacting. He loved to drive—long distances or into the country side. Scott liked sports—basketball, football and hockey—and knew the players and stats. He had an excellent memory, recalling minute details, such as in movies, music, cars and subjects he investigated on the internet. He did well playing Trivial Pursuit, various card games, dominoes, and he loved to challenge his sister in Scrabble.
