Harlan Howard Staats, 57, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at his residence. He was born on February 2, 1969, in Tiffin, Ohio, to the late Fred Staats Jr. and Beatrice “Bea” (Seitz) Staats-Elkins.

Harlan enjoyed fishing and found peace in spending time outdoors, especially during quiet days by the water. He also enjoyed walking through Cobey Park, where he liked to search for arrowheads along the way, combining his love of nature with a sense of curiosity and discovery. He also enjoyed riding his bike and spending time out and about.

He had a hobby of building model cars and took pride in the patience and detail each project required. Harlan also enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and Yahtzee, and liked playing bingo in Mansfield. He was also a devoted San Francisco 49ers fan and followed the team closely, cheering them on through every season.

Above all, Harlan had a strong faith and loved Jesus, which guided him throughout his life. His greatest joy, however, was his son, whom he loved dearly and cherished deeply.

Left to cherish Harlan’s memory are his son, Matt (Carol) Staats; his grandchildren, Nakiah, Elliauna, and Jayla; his brothers, Fred Staats and Richard Staats; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Harlan was preceded in death by his siblings, Larry, Donald, Farron, Raymond, Leroy, and Gloria Staats.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
