David Alan McIntire, age 79, of Mansfield, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, June 13, 2026. He passed away at home and for the last year of his life, he battled with heart and various other health issues. He is now at rest in the arms of the Lord.
He was born on December 24, 1946, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late George and Barbara (Goff) McIntire. Dave graduated from Malabar High School in 1964 and joined the US Navy shortly thereafter, serving from 1966-1970 during the Vietnam War being in country for a period of 16 months. He then worked as a police officer at the Mansfield Police Department for 15 years. He then worked as a security guard at Mansfield MedCentral Hospital for 15 years and AK Steel for 20 years. He married his best friend, Dianne, on September 20, 1995, and they shared a wonderful life of love and adventure.
Dave attended Westwood Alliance Church for 6 years. He had a love of reading that often took him to his favorite place to settle in with a book—Barnes and Noble in the café. He enjoyed playing a round of golf whenever he could. He enjoyed watching sports on television and played a few also. Dave also enjoyed attending concerts in his younger days.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Overley McIntire; two children, David McIntire II and Amy Williams; a grandson, Nicholas (Autumn) McIntire; a great-grandson, Liam McIntire; mother-in-law, Phyllis Overley; brother-in-law, Bryan Overley; sister-in-law, Debbie (Rex) Scott; three brothers, Doug (Linda) Algire, Ted (Shirlee) Algire and Dick Algire; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and three children he sponsored through Compassion International, Selvionna, Maria and Juan Diego.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kelly Kurtzman.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Wappner Funeral Directors and Crematory-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 am with Pastor Luke Miller of Westwood Alliance officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Cemetery with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made in care of Westwood Alliance Church.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff on 2SW at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital for the compassionate and attentive care given to Dave while he was there.
