Edward Eugene Johnson, 57, of Butler, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Ed was born in Mount Vernon Ohio on June 5, 1968 to the late biological parents Glen J. and Karen J. (Sovine). Ed was raised by his grandfather, Donald Sovine as his father figure and mother, Karen Sovine, who taught him honesty, respect and hard work. Ed loved to hunt and fish. He could always be found in the garage working on cars, sitting in the tree stand or by the water somewhere with a fishing pole in hand. He worked 17 years at Mansfield Plumbing. He loved to laugh and crack jokes, but also talked smack when it came to cards or dice. A man with the biggest heart who always welcomed you with a smile, hug and always treated everyone like family. He will be deeply missed by so many.

Ed is survived by his children, Ashley Kean (John Hoar) of Bellville, Donald Johnson of Bellville, Danielle Johnson of Fredericktown; grandkids, JC Hoar, Dalton Kean of Bellville, Braden, Kenna and Gracelynn Gump of Fredericktown and Nicole (Johnson) Lester; mother of his children. His stray kids as he called them, Brent (Bri) Howell of Bellville, Courtney Cole of Howard and their children. His mother, Karen Johnson of Butler; sisters, Lucinda (Kerry) Ward of Loudonville, Betty Johnson of Butler, Michelle (Ron) Crawford of Butler; several nieces nephews and aunt and uncles and special friend, Dave Bolles of Butler.

Ed was preceded in death by his grandparents Donald & Jean Sovine; his father, Randall Johnson; his brother, Robby Johnson; his sister Michelle (Johnson) Bolles.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Luminary Hospice Care. The family would like to give a special thank you to hospice and their amazing team for their patient, compassion, love and care they provided.

The family will receive friends at Bunker Hill Cemetery in Butler on August 1, 2026 at 1 PM for celebration of life, bring lawn chairs.
