Barton Eugene “Zeke” Meyer, 95, passed away at Arbors at Mifflin on Monday, June 1, 2026. He was born on July 5, 1930 in Monessen, PA to William August and Ruth Genevra (Charlton) Meyer.
Bart graduated from Rostraver High School in 1948. He married Jennie Laverne Shetterly on November 5, 1955 in Belle Vernon, PA and they moved to Mansfield, OH the next day for his job at Mansfield Tire.
Bart worked as a draftsman for Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company and Minnich Manufacturing. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Americal Legion Post #16 in Mansfield. He helped with the fish fries at the Legion post for several years. Bart and Laverne volunteered at Arbors at Mifflin, helping residents with various activities – mostly playing Bingo. They also ran the concession stand for the Madison Rams home boys’ basketball games in the early 1980s.
He and his family lived on Charles Mill Lake where he enjoyed duck hunting, fishing and boating. He started woodworking after retirement and made a variety of figures. When he participated in a “white elephant” auction or Bingo game, he would make a white elephant clock for the occasion. He made several garden angels that he gave to people whom he encountered in his life. He enjoyed communicating via CB radio, using the handle “Duck Hunter”.
Camping was a big part of his family life. He and Laverne belonged to the Starcraft Campers Club and two local NCHA camping groups. They camped in many of the lower 48 states with the Starcraft club and considered the members of the club part of their extended family. They were later recognized as Lifetime Honorary Members.
He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church and most recently St. Timothy (now Hope) Lutheran Church. He, along with Laverne, helped with vacation Bible school and was noted for making spaghetti sauce.
Bart is survived by his children, Katie (Brian) Danielson and Don (Karen) Meyer; his grandsons, Jacob (Claire), Ben and Nick Meyer; great-grandchildren, Levi and Elnora Meyer; brothers-in-law Duncan (Susie) Shetterly and Webb Shetterly. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
