Sonya Renee Baker (Yoxtheimer), 65, went home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2026 after a short battle with cancer. Sonya was born in Mansfield, Ohio on December 14, 1960 to Richard Yoxtheimer and Janice Tyson, whom she was preceded in death by. She also was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Jerilyn and Alan Dailey.
Sonya is survived by her husband, Ron Baker, that she shared many happy years with. She is also survived by her two loving sons and stepson, Nicholas (Brittani) Yoxtheimer, Patrick (Misty) Yoxtheimer and Jackson Baker. She was an amazing grandmother to her four grandchildren whom she was very proud of, Patrick Yoxtheimer Jr., Nicholi Yoxtheimer, Kenneth Yoxtheimer and Wrenley Yoxtheimer and they will all miss her greatly. Sonya is also survived by three siblings, many nephews and nieces, and several close family friends.
Sonya was an amazing woman that spent her life giving and serving others. As a child she enjoyed spending time with her father in his motorcycle shop and learning homemaking skills from her mother. She had a heart of pure gold and there were no limits to what she would do for the people she loved and strangers alike. Her door was always open to anyone that needed it and she prided herself on being a safe place to land. Sonya spent many years as an LPN and was one of the best nurses that most ever met, but she also had many skills and trades over the years. Sonya was an in-home daycare provider, a precision machinist, a master seamstress, and was always the best party host- she was an amazing cook and was always the life of the party.
Sonya was a woman that touched thousands of lives. It’s hard to really describe her in words because she held a light that was so pure and so rare to find. She was a saint on Earth and an angel to so many people. She will be remembered with so much love and respect, and her memory will live on through all that loved her. To know her was to love her and her family is more than proud of the woman that she was and the legacy she leaves behind.
The family is planning a celebration of life for family and friends and details will follow once planning is completed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to one of the following organizations that Sonya held close to her heart: The Domestic Violence Shelter in Mansfield, The Richland County Humane Society, or Toys for Tots.
