Dorothy “Dottie” Karst passed away peacefully at home under hospice care on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. She was 72.
She was born on October 4, 1953 in Corona, California to William “Bill” and Betty (Braun) Potts. Dottie graduated from Lexington High School and attended North Central Technical College. On March 10, 1973 she married Michael J. Karst, Sr., after they met at the Ohio State University Mansfield Campus. Together they had their son, Michael Jr., and shared 49 years of marriage together until his passing in 2022.
Dottie spent the majority of her working career at Warren Rupp, where she dedicated many years of service. Music and faith were important parts of her life, and she served alongside her husband as a church accompanist and choir director for many years. Together, they also traveled with the gospel band Glory Roads and assisted with the singing group Uniquely His, sharing their love of music through ministry. Dottie was especially devoted to her dogs and enjoyed caring for them throughout her life. Her work, faith, music, and beloved pets remained constant sources of purpose and enjoyment over the years.
She is survived by her father William “Bill” Potts, sister Donna Potts, son Michael J. (Jennifer) Karst, Jr., grandchildren Desirae (Thomas) Clawson and Caleb Branam, step-sister Janice Dudley, one great-grandchild due January 1st, 2027, and her beloved dogs Bambi and Pebbles.
In addition to her husband, Dottie is preceded in death by her mother Betty Potts, in-laws Michael and Susanna Karst, as well as numerous beloved family dogs.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 11:30 am in Mansfield Cemetery. All are invited to attend a memorial luncheon immediately following the graveside service at Diamond Hills Baptist Church, 647 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio 44907.
