Richard Daniel Osborn, of Bellville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026 following an extended illness. He was 71.
He was born on July 7, 1954, in Jacksonville and was raised in Virginia, Illinois by his grandparents, Elmer and Bessie Sparrow. From a young age, Rich was taught the value of hard work- helping on the family farm and loading coal into trucks for local deliveries. That same strong work ethic carried into every part of his life, including his love of sports. He enjoyed playing football throughout high school and also found excitement in dirt track racing. Rich was a proud graduate of Virginia High School, Class of 1972.
In the 80’s Rich relocated to Ohio and started working at Refurbco, a phone refurbishing company, until he found a career in the automotive industry. As a strong leader, Rich always expected those under his supervision to hold the same values- but he was never asked anything of his employees that he wasn’t willing to do himself.
On August 21, 1993 he married the love of his life, Connie Smith, and together they shared nearly 33 years of marriage that took them on many adventures, including a relocation to Gadsden, Alabama for a time.
Richard lived life with a steady faith, a curious spirit, and a genuine love for people. A longtime attendee of Christ the King Community Church, his faith remained an important foundation throughout his life. He found great joy on the open road aboard his beloved Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, where every ride was an adventure waiting to unfold. Richard was also a devoted NASCAR fan- especially when it came to cheering on Jimmie Johnson- and treasured the memories made attending races at legendary tracks like Daytona 500, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, and Richmond Raceway. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, leaving people feeling like lifelong friends. During the quieter winter months, Richard enjoyed relaxing with his farming simulator, while his love of history often led him to places that brought the past to life, including Manassas National Battlefield Park and USS North Carolina. Whether on the road, in the stands, or sharing a story, Richard found joy in the journey- and brought others along with him.
He is survived by his loving wife Connie Osborn, daughter Shannon Osborn of Illinois, sister Becky (Saul) Sampson of Mississippi, and adopted daughter Stacy Stanfield of Mansfield.
In addition to his parents, Rich is preceded in death by his son Deacon Hopper and sisters Mary Jane and Vicky.
A graveside service for Rick will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 11 am in Bellville Cemetery. Pastor Lucien Baker will officiate.
