OAK HARBOR — Neither the elements nor a loaded district field seemed to bother Xavier Trent and his Ontario teammates Saturday afternoon.
Trent won an individual title in the 1,600-meter run and was a member of the winning 4×800-relay team as the Warriors cruised to the team title at the rugged Division III Oak Harbor district meet.
Ontario finished with 118.5 points, well ahead of runner-up Clear Fork (85). Sandusky Perkins (81) finished third.
Trent chased down Perkins’ Joel Smelcer on the final lap to win the 1,600 in 4:22.41 and advance to next week’s Piqua regional. The top four finishers qualified for regionals.
“I stuck at the front the first three laps and then kicked it in,” Trent said. “I could feel the second lap was slower so I had some energy to move those last few laps.”
The constant drizzle that fell during Saturday’s meet didn’t seem to bother him.
“When I walked in I thought it was going to be bad,” Trent said. “I actually like these conditions. It was warm with a little bit of rain.”
Ontario coach Rachel Miller wasn’t surprised to see the Warriors shine in less-than-perfect weather conditions.
“I told them at the beginning of the day our entire season has prepared us for this,” Miller said. “We’ve run in rain this whole season. We’ve run in the rain more than we haven’t.”
Trent teamed with Michael Ward, Xander Chitwood and Jace Young to win the 4×800 in 8:07.97 Thursday.
Young won an individual district title Saturday in the 800, finishing in 1:54.95.
Ontario’s 4×200 team of Elton Toska, Brady Rowe, Tre Fowler and Jeremy Powell struck district gold in 1:29.06.
Clear Fork’s David Hoeflich won a pair of district titles. He was first in the high jump with a leap of 6-4 and teamed with Aidan Haring, Davis Hoeflich and Devyn Oswalt to win the 4×100 relay in 42.44.
Clear Fork’s Ethan Beck won a district title in the 400, finishing in 50.56.
Girls
Shelby’s Madison Henkel and Princess Timko each won individual titles and joined forces with Ashley Montgomery and Yamaha Williams to win the 4×100 relay in 48.60. Henkel won the long jump with a leap of 17-10, while Timko won the 100 in 12.55.
Clear Fork’s Taylor Bly won the 400 in 55.84. Teammate Katrina Neal won the 1,600 in 5:07.88.
Lexington’s Katya Prykhodko won the 3,200 in 11:10.93.
Ontario’s 4×200 relay team of Mia Moton, Tessa Crum, Sasha Bulakovski and Audrey Mahon won in 1:42.22. Crum, Bulakovski and Mahon teamed with Kamryn Pelphrey to win the 4×400 relay in 3:56.30.
The Lexington quartet of Jersie Palmer, Gabi Twedt, Morgan Harrod and Mia Twedt won the 4×800 relay in 9:42.41.
Bellevue won the girls team title with 112 points. Lexington (100) was second and Oak Harbor (80) was third.
