MANSFIELD — It is with great pride that ManCI has chosen correctional officer Ashley Church for the 2026 Officer of the Year Award.
With 12 years of service at Mansfield Correctional Institution, Officer Church consistently exemplifies professionalism, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to safety, rehabilitation, and continuous improvement.
Ashley serves as both a Correctional Officer and an On-the-Job Training (OJT) Coach, where she plays a critical role in mentoring newly hired officers. She leads by example, helping develop confident, knowledgeable, and professional staff members. Her patience, guidance, and willingness to invest in others directly contribute to institutional safety and long-term staff success.
Her dedication to safety was profoundly demonstrated through her quick thinking and decisive action in the segregation unit, where she intervened and saved the life of a suicidal incarcerated person. Her immediate response, composure under pressure, and adherence to training prevented a tragic outcome.
Officer Church is also committed to professional growth. She has taken full advantage of DRC career development opportunities through the Correctional Training Academy (CTA) and continues to expand her skills and knowledge.
Additionally, she has applied to participate in the PACE Program in the upcoming year, demonstrating initiative, forward-thinking leadership, and a desire to further contribute to the institution and the Department at a higher level.
Ashley is actively working toward increased involvement with the Crisis
Intervention Team (CIT), reflecting her commitment to strengthening
communication, de-escalation skills, and mental health awareness within the correctional setting. She consistently seeks opportunities to improve both herself and the environment around her.
Known for her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and motivation, Officer Church brings energy and professionalism to every shift. She encourages those around her to grow and improve, fosters teamwork, and leads with integrity.
