Janet Mae Walnum passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at home surrounded by family. Janet was born on November 30, 1931, (despite telling her grandchildren she was 39), in Clear Creek, West Virginia to the late Charles and Garnet (Stover) Lilly. She married Buster Scarbro in 1951 with whom she had four children. She later married Loren Walnum in 1969 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Janet went to work at Geauga Plastics in 1964 and retired after 33 years.

Janet learned to crochet at the age of 7 and was very well known for her crocheted towels that have gone as far as England. All family members as well as close friends received beautiful afghans for their wedding and high school graduates in the colors of the college they would be attending. Janet also made hundreds of stuffed bears which she donated to local doctor offices and nursing homes.

She is survived by her son Randy (Gerri) Scarbro, step children Penny Brown and Terry Walnum, grandchildren, Angie (Duane) Schramek, Brian (Lindsay) Scarbro, Bart (Katy) Scarbro, Stacey Scarbro, Justin (Ashley) Scarbro, Jeffrey Scarbro, Jenna Scarbro, Rebbeca Fender Black, and step grandchildren, Cassie and Barry Herschler, seventeen great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. Also, brother George Lilly, and sisters Kay Straub, special friend Virgie Barker of whom she regarded as a sister, brother-in-law, Mel (Rita) Cooper and sister-in-law, Dreama Dunbar.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband Loren, her sons, John Scarbro, Jeffrey Scarbro, daughter Sara Scarbro Fender, sisters; infant Ava Lilly and Kathleen Drylk, brothers Gordon Lilly and Charlie Lilly.

Family and friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Gompf Funeral Service – Crestline Chapel, 223 West Main St., Crestline, with nephew Mike Woody officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Crawford County Council on Aging, 200 South Spring St., Bucyrus, OH 44820.
