CANTON – Members of the U.S. Marshals led Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Ashaad Delshawn Carlisle, 33, early Wednesday morning in Canton.
Carlisle was wanted by the Canton Police Department for aggravated murder and the discharge of a firearm near a prohibited premises.
“Detectives with the Canton Police Department and members of our task force worked quickly to identify this suspect and get him into custody,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated.
In the early-morning hours of April 19 shots were fired at an apartment building window in the 3100 block of Tuscarawas St. West in Canton. When officers arrived to the apartment they found the victim, Richard Staats, had been shot in the head.
Staats was transported to the hospital and two days later was taken off life support. Shortly after the victim was taken off life support, warrants were issued for Ashaad Carlisle for aggravated murder and firearms violations.
The NOVFTF immediately began looking for Carlisle, searching numerous locations in the Canton area.
On Monday, Carlisle was featured as the Fugitive of the Week in hopes that members of the community may have information on his whereabouts.
Early Wednesday morning, the task force received information that Carlisle was hiding out at a location in the 700 block of Greenfield Ave. SW in Canton.
The task force was able to locate and arrest Carlisle without incident.
“The tips received from community members after the suspect was featured as Fugitive of the Week on Monday were invaluable to getting this fugitive off the streets,” Elliott said.
