MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Power Squadron will sponsor its annual Safe Boating Week event on Saturday, May 16 to help promote National Safe Boating Week.

The event will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Charles Mill Marina Patio adjacent to the marina store. Charles Mill Marina is located at 1277 State Route 430 in Mansfield.

This is the official launch of the 2026 Safe Boating Campaign. This year-long campaign promotes the value of voluntary, consistent life jacket wear by recreational boaters.

The annual event, hosted by the Mansfield Power Squadron serves as a fun, educational event. Educating the boating public about the safety and comfort of life jackets has been a focus of the campaign.

Numerous Local Officials and their National Safe Boating Week Proclamations, County Officials and their National Safe Boating Week Proclamation, Local Boating Groups, Department of Natural Resource, Division of Watercraft Officer will be present.

Mansfield Power Squadron members and Officers, and District Officers of the United States Power Squadron’s. (Americans Boating Club.) There will also be boats, sailboats safe boating literature and safety equipment on display.

Safety literature will be able to be taken home. Charles Mill Marina will have safety equipment for review and sale at the event.

U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that drowning was the cause of death in three out of every four recreational boating fatalities in 2023, and that 87 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets.

New life jackets are much more comfortable, lightweight, and stylish than the bulky orange style most boaters know. There are innovative options, such as inflatable life jackets, allowing mobility and flexibility for activities like boating, fishing, paddling or hunting, and are much cooler in the warmer weather.

Members of the boating public as well as those interested in showing the wearability of life jackets are encouraged to participate.
