Clarence Carl Crider was born December 22nd, 1940 on the family farm near Johnsville, Ohio. After graduating from Johnsville High School in 1958 he tried to get work locally and eventually enlisted in the United States Air Force. Prior to leaving for basic training, he married Linda Lou Freeman. After basic training he was assigned to Bunker Hill Air Force near Peru, Indiana. In 1960 he welcomed his first son, Mark and shortly thereafter shipped off to Misawa Air Force base in Japan for two years serving as an Air Force Security Policeman.

After his discharge in 1961 they moved to Tucson, Arizona and in 1965 he and Linda welcomed their second son, Mike. In 1966 they moved back to Ohio settling in Ontario where he eventually found work at Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Crestline, Ohio. Carl was a model employee and worked for PPG retired in 2002 as the plant maintenance supervisor. While his boys were growing up Carl was actively involved in their activities such as hunting, little league coach, assistant scoutmaster, camping trips, Fourth of July Parade committee, tennis and many other personal and civic activities.

In 1990 he met Marjorie “Lois” Bechtel who adopted his passion for motorcycling and joined him on their many Goldwing motorcycle trips all across the United States and Canada. They were very active in planning and participating in charity motorcycle events. They were very active in the local Goldwing chapter being named “Couple of the Year” in 2005 and serving as co-presidents in 2006. Carl and Marge married in 2000 and celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 2025 with many friends and family. After his retirement from PPG Carl spent many hours in his garage restoring his VW bug, building all sorts of woodworking projects, talking on his HAM radio and cleaning and polishing his beloved Goldwing. Carl spent many days at car shows around the state with one of his two VW bugs and was very proud of all the trophies he accumulated. Carl and Marge are current and active members of Ontario United Methodist Church and held many positions on numerous committees. They enjoyed going to the YMCA together where Marge did water aerobics and Carl lifted weights and enjoyed the occasional doughnut.

In 2021 Carl participated in the Honor Flight program and flew to Washington DC to tour all of the veteran’s war memorials. He received many letters and cards during “mail call” from all his family and friends. He was fiercely proud of his Air Force service and was rarely without one of his many military hats.
