Shaver defeated fellow Democrats Daniel John Burket, Martin M. Heberling III and Scott E. Tabor.

According to final unofficial results from the Secretary of State website, Shaver received 28.68% of the votes in District 5 and 29.36% in Richland County.

The victory sets up a November matchup against Republican incumbent Bob Latta, who has represented the district since 2007.

Shaver, 48, a longtime educator and local elected official focused his campaign on balance and broad perspective.

“I’m truly humbled and honored to be the Democratic nominee for Ohio’s 5th District,” Shaver added. “Thank you to every voter who put their trust in me.”

“To my family, my campaign team and everyone working behind the scenes: Thank you. Your support makes this possible,” he added.

Shaver recognized his other candidates who he said showed their communities what respectful, good‑faith campaigning looks like. He hopes in the months ahead to earn the support of those who backed his primary opponents, as well as those who haven’t traditionally voted for a Democratic candidate.

“I look forward to continuing to work toward our shared goals,” he said.

“My platform centers on people over partisanship, whereas every person in this district deserves to be fairly represented,” he said.

Shaver previously told Richland Source he has to leave his personal views and religious views at the schoolhouse door. Adding this positions him well to serve all the people of the district.

“We’ll be partnering with county headquarters across the district to host events and connect with as many of you as possible,” he said.

Those interested can follow Shaver online and visit his website to find out where he’ll be in the future.

Shaver said there is still work ahead as they move toward victory over Bob Latta on Nov. 3.

Let’s come together to bring new leadership to D.C. and ensure the people of this district have a representative who works for them.
