Betty Fay Glover (née Knell)
September 9, 1956 – April 30, 2026
Betty Fay Glover of Mansfield, Ohio, formerly of Shelby, Ohio, and Vanceburg, Kentucky, passed away at OSU Hospital in Columbus on April 30, 2026, following an extended illness.
Most significantly, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur “Junior” Glover, whom she married on July 23, 1978. He passed away on May 26, 2002. She carried his memory with her throughout her life. She often took friends and family to the mausoleum to sit with him and never stopped loving him.
Betty Glover was a steady and warm presence in the lives of those around her. She brought people together and cared deeply for others.
She had a gift for truly seeing people and their struggles, their strengths, and their unspoken needs. She built lasting friendships through patience and genuine care. To many, she was both a trusted guide and a loyal companion.
Betty loved country music and often sang songs of loyalty, redemption, and enduring love. These songs gave voice to her resilience, which she shared through practical, everyday acts of care.
As a skilled seamstress, Betty worked with precision and creativity. Every stitch reflected discipline and intention. The quilts she made provided both comfort and lasting memories for those she loved. Her kindness expressed itself through action. She stepped in where needed, organized what mattered, and encouraged others to move forward. She believed people thrive when someone invests time and care in them.
She attended School in Vanceburg, Kentucky and Ashland University. Betty also took pride in working with her hands in other ways. She was a capable mechanic who often maintained her own vehicles, she was a dedicated union member, belonging to both the United Steelworkers and the International Union of Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers. Over the course of her career, she worked as a press operator and quality control specialist at GMC and contributed her skills to HS Automotive, Royal Industries, and DSL Logistics. She also worked as a master seamstress at the Ohio Knitting Mill.
Betty believed strongly in community involvement. She was a life member of AMVETS Post 26 and VFW Post 3494, where she served on the Women’s Auxiliary Honor Guard and as the unit’s seamstress. She was also a member of the Sons and Daughters of Herman, the International Moose, and the local Gold Wing motorcycle club.
In addition to her loving husband, Arthur and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Anna (Earl) Leasure, Luly M.(Roy) Soummers, and brother-in-law Tyrone Sauley; and her brothers, Charles (Sophie) Knell, Stanley (Agnus) Knell, David (Cheryl) Knell. Infant siblings Loly, Debbie, Wilma and Claudie Bill.
She is survived by her sister Virginia Sauley; her brother, Danny (Crystal); Nancy Elizabeth Schaffer of Chillicothe, whom she called her “daughter”; She also leaves many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory. She found deep friendship and loyalty in her best friends Cathy Windbigler and L. Mike Smith, who supported and loved her to the very end.
Betty will be deeply missed.
No public service will be held. Private interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Lexington, Ohio at a later date.
