Stephen ‘Steve’ Owen Hopkins, age 68, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away on April 30, 2026, in Mansfield.
Steve was born June 2, 1957, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, one of three children born to Daniel Stephen Hopkins and Margaret Jean (Workman) Hopkins. He was a 1976 graduate of Madison High School.
Music was at the center of Steve’s life. A lifelong musician, he played guitar but first and foremost considered himself a vocalist, known for his beautiful singing voice. He loved sharing his gift in meaningful ways, often blending music and faith. Steve was involved with many different churches over the years, serving as a musician and participating in groups that performed in Mansfield square. He also brought music to nursing homes, using song as a way to connect with and uplift others.
In his younger years, Steve enjoyed playing volleyball and badminton. He was also a devoted Cleveland Browns fan and especially enjoyed going to Berea to watch the team train.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Hopkins; and many extended family members, including eight uncles and seven aunts.
He is survived by his sister, Roberta Hopkins; his niece, Andrea Bjore (Benjamin); his great-nephew, Vyncent Hopkins; his great-niece, Erabella Hopkins; his best friend and “adopted brother,” Neil Diemer; his cousin and friend, Daniel Tucker; as well as many other cousins and dear friends.
Steve will be remembered for his kindness, his faith, and the joy he brought to others through music.
A memorial gathering will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the Life Celebration Reception Center, 129 S Main St, Mansfield, OH. Steve will be laid to rest at Mansfield Cemetery.
