“We are hoping for a good turnout to help celebration the 250th Anniversary of American Independence,” said band leader Brian Treisch.
The Galion Community Band was formed in 1976 for the Bicentennial and has performed nearly every year since.
“There will several other directors this year,” Treisch said. “We have several college music education majors that will be conducting various works. It’s part of our mission to support music and music education.”
The July 3 Concert will be a patriotic concert celebrating our nations 250th birthday.
“We want to celebrate with patriotic music and honor area veterans during the concert,” Treisch said. “We will be asking veterans and current service members to come forward during the Salute to the Armed Forces and remain during the playing of the ‘Battle Hymn of the Republic.’ ”
The August concert will be a summer band concert with marches, lighter contemporary works, and some light classics.
Donations are being accepted to offset the costs of these concerts.
“We offer a small compensation for our band members and need to provide music and liability insurance,” Treisch said. “The concerts are free but we community support to make this happen.
“We have sent letters to some of our business community requesting support, but will welcome any and all support.”
Donations can be sent to the Galion Community Foundation, PO Box 634, Galion, Ohio 44833.
