Jackie “Jack” Lee Bates, 74, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Galion Avita Hospital. Jack was born on March 14, 1952, in Pike County, Kentucky to the late Willie “Fog” and Ramie (Isaac) Bates.

He graduated from Clermont High School in 1991 and went on to build a dedicated career spanning 30 years at Galion Komatsu Iron Works.

Jack married the love of his life, Grace “Beth” (Figel) Bates, on November 30, 1978. From that day forward, they shared a beautiful journey together, building a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Through the years, their days were filled with countless cherished moments-both big and small-that reflected the deep bond they shared.

He was a devoted member of Grace Brethren Church, where his faith was the foundation of his life. Jack’s relationship with God was deeply important to him, and he lived out his beliefs through kindness, humility, and service to others. He found great meaning in fellowship, especially through his involvement in men’s Bible study, where he built lasting friendships and continued to grow in his faith.

Jack had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, finding peace and joy in nature. Above all, he cherished his family. Time spent with his children and grandchildren brought him immense happiness, and he took great pride in being a loving and devoted presence in their lives.

In addition to his beloved wife, Beth, Jack’s memory is left to be cherished by his children, Lora (Ed) Flinner and Sam (Samantha) Bates, his grandchildren, Harrison “Eddie” (Krista) Flinner, Hunter (Ashley) Flinner, Liam Bates, and Teigen Bates, and his siblings, Clyde (Rosie) Bates, Ray Bates, and Rhonda (Llyod) Slone.

Jack is proceeded in death by his parents, Willie “Fog” and Ramie Bates, and his siblings, Tennis, Willie, Lester, Chester, Jean, Patty, Evelyn, Mabel, Cleo, and Ann.

Friends may call on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Grace Brethren Church, 1055 Winchester Road, Galion. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Jeff Pennington and Pastor Brian Auten. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery.
