Katharine L. “Kathi” Lawhorn, 62, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, at Good Shepherd Home in Ashland.
Born November 5, 1963, in Mansfield, she was known in her younger years as Kathi Wheatcraft. A proud graduate of Madison High School, she was active in both athletics and the arts, playing volleyball and performing as a flutist in the school band—early reflections of her energetic and expressive spirit.
On August 12, 1988, Kathi married the love of her life, Douglas Lawhorn, Sr. Together they built a life centered on family, sharing 22 years of marriage before his passing on September 4, 2010.
Kathi began her working years in the restaurant industry, where her natural warmth and gift for conversation made her a favorite among customers at places like Mr. Steak and Bob Evans. She later worked at Neuman Technologies and Family Dollar. However, her most important and cherished role was at home, where she devoted herself to raising her three children and creating a loving environment for her family.
Kathi will be remembered as a kind, charismatic woman whose sociable nature made it easy for her to connect with others. She had a remarkable ability to strike up a conversation and turn strangers into friends, leaving a lasting impression wherever she went.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, especially her children, family, and many dear friends.
She is survived by her children Kristin (Brian) Bethany of Woodbridge, VA, Doug Lawhorn, Jr. of Mansfield, and Ryan (Keelie) Lawhorn of Ontario; many grandchildren, and her sister Karen Penrose.
In addition to her late husband Kathi was preceded in death by her mother Thelma Ballitch, and sister Kimberly Rainey.
The family would like to thank The staff at Good Shepherd Home in Ashland for the care they provided and a special thank you to her hospice nurse and care staff at Southern Care Hospice for their care and keeping Kathi comfortable in her last few weeks.
