Sandra Kay Mertler, passed away Monday, April 27, 2026 in her Lexington home with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 11, 1940 in Mansfield to the late William Lee Rudrick and Ruby Alberta Coon Rudrick.

Sandra worked in food service for Lexington Schools for approximately 25 years. In addition to her duties at the school, she and her late husband Stephen worked the 85-acre family farm where they raised cattle, hogs, chickens and grains.

Sandra looked forward to her weekly trips to the Lexington Senior Center for lunch and time to chat with friends. She also frequented the Ontario Senior Center to listen to country music. Going to garage sales and various thrift stores were among some of her favorite activities. She made great pies, enjoyed riding her four wheeler and in her later years taking Harley rides with Dave up to Lake Erie to eat at Jolly Roger’s Seafood House. Whether it be around the campfire in the apple orchard, painting rocks or making sugar cookies with her grandchildren, time spent with family was very important to her. She was a member of the Lexington V.F.W. # 5101.

She will be fondly remembered by her sons, Stephen (Barbara) Mertler, Kevin (Kim) Mertler and Kurt (Lisa) Mertler; her special friend, Dave McCammon; her grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Palmer, Destiny Knapp and Jessica Biller; her great-grandchildren, Vance and Ember Palmer and Isabella and Isaiah West; her sisters, Sherry (Joe) Belcher and Joyce Blevins. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stephen Mertler; her brother, Bill Rudrick.
