Carol Rose (Ritter) McFarland, 92, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Kingston of Ashland. She was born October 19, 1933, to the late Charles and Rose May (Boles) Ritter.
Carol spent most of her life as a homemaker, devoted to her family. While raising her children, she cleaned homes to help cover school expenses and ensure they had what they needed. She maintained a home rooted in hard work—washing clothes on a line, tending a large garden, and canning fruits and vegetables each year. Known for her generosity, she baked for church, family, and friends, and was always giving to others. She was active in Mothers Club and PTA at Woodville School and supported local Scout troops. Carol also had a talent for sewing and cooking and was especially known for her meals that brought her family together.

She cherished time with her family, especially on vacations to California or camping trips along the river at Mohican State Park. She and her husband also enjoyed several years in Avon Park, Florida, where they made many dear friends.

She is survived by her four children, Paul (Joanne) McFarland, Melody (Jim) Young, Mala (Terry) McBride, and Preston McFarland; grandchildren, Adam and Amy McFarland, Matthew McBride, Jennifer Witter, and Kyle and Brock McBride; great-grandchildren, Abby McFarland, Matthew Jr., Cheyenne, Avery, Noah, Sydney, Brady, Terrence, Bryce, Chip and Clinton McBride, Ashley Vanbuskirk, and Jaxson and Jase Witter; great-great-grandchildren, Skylar Francis, Liam, and Casper Vanbuskirk, Addin, Allayah, Emmitt, and Natalee McBride; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delno P. “Pete” McFarland; and her brothers, Walter, Willard, and Charles Ritter.

Family and friends may visit on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Wappner Funeral Directors & Crematory, 98 S. Diamond Street where the funeral service officiated by Rev. Dallas Waggle will begin at 12:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in Little Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made in Carol’s honor may be made to the Little Washington Congregational Women’s Fellowship, 2323 Washington South Rd., Mansfield, Ohio 44903.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kingston of Ashland and Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional care of Carol.

Carol will be remembered as a giver—never a taker—whose life was defined by love, resilience, and selflessness. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
