Elaine Jeannette Henderson, 90, of Crestline passed peacefully with family by her side
on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Mill Creek Nursing Home.
Elaine was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on November 15, 1935, to the late Eldon
and Mary Magalene (Holcker) Workman. On September 30, 2000, Elaine married her
high school sweetheart, Vernon “Vern” Henderson. He preceded her in death on
January 5, 2026. She held a deep and enduring love for her childhood in Crestline and
cherished the memory of her parents throughout her life.
A proud graduate of Crestline High School, Class of 1953, Elaine went on to earn a
Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from The Ohio State University. She continued her
education at Salisbury University in Maryland, where she received a Master’s Degree in
Psychology. Elaine dedicated her professional life to serving others in the State of
Delaware at The Stockley Center in Millsboro, retiring in 1998 after years of meaningful
and impactful work.
Elaine was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Crestline, where her
kindness, dedication, and good works were evident to all who knew her. She was known
for love of family and her great sense of humor. She made a wonderful clown costume
and learned the art of clowning. She co-wrote a highly regarded cookbook—Pots Pans
& Politics. She made miniature oriental rugs. She loved colorful flowers. Known for her
signature style, leopard print was a staple in her wardrobe. Her hospitality and
compassion always made everyone feel welcome.
Above all, Elaine was a loving and devoted mother, remaining caring and resilient
throughout life’s challenges. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—playing bridge,
reading, and tending to her garden. Elaine was a true American Patriot and a dedicated
fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. She never missed a game in the Ohio Stadium for
over 15 years, cheering faithfully for her team.
She will be remembered for her grace, strength, and unwavering love for family, and will
be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Elaine’s memory will be cherished by her children: J. Michael (Kelly) Wheeler, Mark
(Carol LiVolsi) Wheeler, and Laura (Kevin) Bullock; step-children: Edward (Sarah)
Henderson, Laura Henderson, and Brad (Jamie Kelly) Henderson; brother: Thomas
(Pamela) Workman; grandchildren: Jennifer, Miah, Madaline, Noelle, Kylie, Darien,
Jessica, Christopher, Timothy, Sarah, Nicholas, and Lilly; numerous great-
grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elaine was preceded in death by her stepson,
Kyle Henderson, and grandson, Zachary Bullock.
Friends may call on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at Gompf
Funeral Service – Crestline Chapel, 223 West Main Street, Crestline, Ohio. The funeral service will begin immediately at 11:00 AM with Pastor Diana Seaman officiating. Burial
will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
