Robert Daryl Russell, affectionately known as “Bob,” age 83, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully March 31, 2026, at home. Born July 15, 1942 to William J. and Jenny Faye (Brown) Russell, he will be remembered as a devoted family man, proud veteran, and a familiar, friendly face throughout his community.
Bob served honorably in the Air National Guard for seven years. He was a 1960 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. In the mid-1960s, he met the love of his life, Sandra “Sandy” Davis, and they were married for 60 wonderful years, building a life centered on family, love, and shared experiences.
A man of many passions, Bob was deeply involved in the Beagle Club, where he ran trials, judged events, and was an active member of the NBC (National Beagle Club of America) for approximately 25 years—often enjoying these activities alongside his family. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing (including ice fishing), deer hunting, gardening, and mushroom hunting.
Bob was also dedicated to mentoring young people in his community. He coached baseball for several years at Wooster Heights Elementary and later coached youth basketball at the Friendly House. Known to many as “the mailman,” Bob took great pride in his work and cherished the relationships he built along his route, always enjoying a good conversation.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved cat, Paws.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Russell; his son, Brian Russell (Jessica); his daughter, Kelly Jackson; and his grandsons, Benjamin Jackson and Dylan Russell.
Friends and family may send flowers to the Mayflower Congregational Church, 548 N. McElroy Road, Mansfield, Ohio, or consider making a donation in his memory.
Bob will be fondly remembered as both “the mailman” and “the baseball coach,” a testament to the lasting impact he had on those around him.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service on Monday April 13, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Mansfield Cemetery, 389 Altamont Avenue, Mansfield, OH 44902.
