John Warren Valentine, 83, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away March 29, 2026. Born January 5, 1943, John was a lifelong resident of Mansfield, where he lived a life devoted to family, service, and community.

Son of John and Isabella Valentine, John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, his greatest joy was his family. He proudly supported his sons by coaching their sports teams and serving as a Boy Scout leader, helping guide and encourage many young people, including leading his sons to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

John was exceptionally well-read and deeply knowledgeable, with a sharp mind and quiet intelligence that shaped how he saw the world. He had a gift for sharing what he knew in a way that made others feel included and never small. Well known for his dry wit and perfectly timed humor, John was both clever and ornery in the very best way—playful, spirited, and unmistakably himself to those who knew and loved him.

John dedicated over 36 years to General Motors and proudly served in the Air Force National Guard. He remained actively involved in his community, serving on the Mifflin Township Zoning Board and as a member of the Mansfield Noon Optimist Club.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Valentine; his sons, Jon Valentine of Atlanta, Georgia, and Michael Valentine (Cameron) of Lone Tree, Colorado; his beloved grandson, Kai Valentine of Lone Tree, Colorado; and his sister, Jeanne Alexander (Tim) of Lucas, Ohio.

John will be remembered for his integrity, quiet wisdom, humor, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He will be deeply missed.

Family and friends are invited to a gathering on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM at Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield, OH 44902, a memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM.
