MANSFIELD – Virginia Maxine Pounds, 95, of Mansfield, passed away March 27, 2026 at Liberty Nursing Care Center.
Virginia was born Oct. 24, 1930 in Scio, Ohio to Orton and Clara (Kail) Harmon. She graduated in 1949 from Cadiz High School and worked in the Scio Pottery until her marriage to Frank G. Pounds in 1953. They moved to Galion and later to the Crestline area and raised 7 children. In later years, she worked for the North American Knitting Mill in Mansfield, Universal Manufacturing and retired in 1993 from Hi-Stat Manufacturing in Lexington.
Virginia was a homemaker in the truest sense, cooking, baking, rocking babies, and using a wringer washer and clothesline in earlier years. She loved visiting the neighbor ladies on her street, sewing, and working in her flower and vegetable gardens. When her children were older she loved to roller skate; in later years she made many quilts for her family. Virginia loved carousels, all babies and baby animals. She survived the Great Depression, the death of a child, and cancer at 78.
She was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1982, Mansfield South congregation, and loved her spiritual family dearly. She baked breads for her friends and had regular days out with her “shopping gang” until she moved to Liberty. The staff there became another family to her, and she always said they took “good care of her.” In her last 11 years there, her comfort was her hot tea with honey and a steady stream of visitors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant child Jan Francine; a daughter, Heidi Riddlebaugh; a grandson, Jeremiah Tuttle; three brothers, Alvin, Kenneth and Robert Harmon; a sister, Eunice; and nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children, Wanza (Mike) Weed, Lexington, Randa (Hal) Wagner, Crestline, Matt (Bonnie) Pounds, Lexington, Andy (Jaime) Pounds, Mansfield, John (Jill) Pounds, Mansfield and Kory Pounds, Mansfield. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kristen (Ray) Cromer, Melanie (Joe) Loftis, Matthew (Rukiya) Johnson, Kevin Weed, Chris (Lindsay) Weed, Summer (John) Lawrence, Denielle (Jeremy) Horsley, Michael (Susanna) Pounds, Jessica Pounds, Andrew (Brenna) Pounds, Aaron Pounds, and Joshua (Justine) Pounds; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Beverly Harmon, of Cadiz; nieces Dee Proudfoot of South Newport, Ga., Karen Dickson of Ft. Benning, Ga., and Robbyn (Tim) Smith of Ft. Wayne, Ind.
