Virginia E. “Ginger” Wilcox, 79, of Galion, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
Ginger was born in Galion on January 16, 1947, and attended Galion City Schools, where she graduated in 1965. After graduation, she moved to Columbus to pursue a degree in education at The Ohio State University.
Upon receiving her bachelor’s at OSU, she began her teaching career working with learning disabled children in the Columbus City Schools. She later transitioned into Career Education Coordinator of the Columbus School System. She also held membership at St. Paul’s United Methodist in Galion, several churches in the Columbus area, and more recently at Crossroads Church in Mansfield.
She was an avid sports fan following the local Galion sports teams, The Galion Graders, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and all Cleveland sports teams. She was seen all over the area wearing various team shirts and displaying multiple decorations. She was known throughout many of the local businesses and restaurants. No one could deny her love for her hometown or her sports teams. Additionally, she was an ardent reader. She also adored animals, having many pets herself.
She is survived by her brother, Terry (Crystal) Wilcox of Galion; her nieces, Anne Hawkins of Springfield, TN, Susan (Jerry) Myers of Bucyrus, and Shari (RC) Teynor of Galion; her nephew, Chuck (Kelly) Hawkins of Hendersonville, TN; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Aileen Wilcox of Galion; a brother, Larry (Brenda Rossman) Wilcox of Galion; a sister, Gloria (Wes) Hawkins of Springfield, TN; a nephew, Jon Wilcox of Galion; and several grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
