It’s a special spiritual gift to be welcoming to others – all the time – and in all situations. Evelyn Manderson had a charming personality and supportive character that was magnetic. Even in upsetting situations, she was nonplussed. Evelyn was characterized by compassion.
Evelyn was called to the Lord’s presence Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from Bennington Glen, Marengo. She was 95.
Born Evelyn Ruth Miller on October 23, 1930 in Rochester, PA to parents William David and Julia (McPadden) Miller, she was graduated from Monaca (PA) High School in 1948.
On May 10, 1952 she married William John Manderson, and they moved to Mansfield in 1969 when his employer moved him here.
In Mansfield, she raised her family, enjoyed attending the symphony, liked camping and boating – often on Lake Erie. She had no use for the Ohio winters, and often went to Corpus Christi or South Padre Island for the season.
Evelyn always acted as an advocate for her family. Unconditional love was her guide – she just never gave up on her family.
An excellent baker and cook, Evelyn baked a wonderful double crust apple pie, and made a terrific beef stroganoff. An avid golfer, into her 90s, Evelyn played every week on a circuit of courses, maintaining an active social life with friends and condo neighbors for bridge and dining outings.
She was a member of Resurrection Parish.
She is survived by her son William Manderson of Mount Gilead, her daughter and son-in-law Mary and Kevin Anthony of Columbus, two granddaughters; and a great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband William John Manderson on April 14, 2005.
Her family will receive guests, Monday. March 23, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Bennington Glen Activities Department.
The medical professionals at Bennington Glen are to be commended for the exceptional care they gave Evelyn – as well as the compassion and love they showered on her.
