GALION — “Galion’s Music Makers” will explore the rich musical heritage of a city whose influence has reached well beyond its size on Thursday, March 12.
Through recordings, historic images, and live performances, the interactive program will highlight the many ways Galion has shaped and been shaped by music across generations.
“Music has been woven into Galion’s history for generations, and this program brings those stories together in a way people can see and hear,” said Brenda Treisch, Preserving Galion, Inc. Board Member.
Guests will watch, listen, and connect with musicians who were from Galion, performed here, and carried the city’s musical heritage across the country and around the world.
The program will include:
• Hearing period recordings of a world famous tenor with a unique connection to Galion.
• Watching the earliest known video of the Galion High School Marching Band, filmed around 1950.
• Learning about the history of Galion High School bands.
• Following the threads that link generations of local music teachers and students.
• Hearing Galion songs performed live by area musicians … and discovering much, much more.
This program will also be the first public presentation using our new large screen ViewBoard, funded through a grant from the America 250-Ohio program.
Guests will also be the very first to see the latest progress in the Gill House Dining Room ceiling restoration.
This event will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 12 at the Gill House, 342 Harding Way West. Admission is free, with goodwill donations appreciated. The program is recommended for ages 14 and older.
