BUCYRUS — The Board of Directors of United Way of North Central Ohio announced Monday that Amber Wertman will be stepping down as Chief Executive Officer this summer.
After nearly 14 years of dedicated service to the regional philanthropic organization, Wertman will be exploring new opportunities.
During her tenure, Wertman has been instrumental to the growth and stability of United Way in north central Ohio.
She first served as Executive Director of United Way of Crawford County before moving to the Executive Director role at United Way of Marion County and Wyandot County.
Under her guidance, the Marion County non-profit was restructured as United Way of North Central Ohio, merging first with Crawford County and later bringing local Seneca County and Morrow County United Way agencies into the regional organization.
Wertman’s early adoption and continued championship of the Collective Impact model and RBA (Results Based Accountability) as the basis for the organization’s grants allocation process, as well as for internal agency processes, places United Way of North Central Ohio at the forefront of philanthropic changemakers in the region.
“Our team is using data to target funding for nonprofit partners who are tackling systemic problems and driving long-term impact in the community,” Wertman said. “Using Collective Impact and RBA allows us to be intentional about solving problems and creating opportunities for the people who live in our region.”
“On behalf of the Board, I want to express our gratitude and thanks to Amber for her inspiring leadership,” said UWNCO Board President Erica Kaple. “We’re sad to see her go, but we are incredibly proud of the foundation she’s built and the team that we have in place.
“We’re excited about what’s ahead for United Way of North Central Ohio.”
A clear path forward
To ensure a seamless transition, Wertman has worked with the Board of Directors to initiate a formal succession plan that emphasizes continuity and mission-driven leadership.
She will continue in her role as the hiring search commences and will ensure comprehensive onboarding for her replacement.
The Board has established a Search Committee, chaired by Kimberly Niedermier, and plans to release the formal job posting by March 13.
“Leading United Way of North Central Ohio has been one of the greatest adventures of my professional life,” Wertman said. “I am tremendously proud of our team and what we have accomplished together in the communities we serve.
“The Board has my full support during this transition, and I look forward to seeing UWNCO’s advancing impact in the region.”
